IT Business Continuity and Disaster Planning
to be Discussed at April 22nd AITP Meeting
Planning, testing key factors in successful preparation

Hicksville, N.Y. – April 9, 2008 – The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) today announced the speaker lineup for its April 22nd meeting titled: “IT Disaster Preparedness: Start Planning Yesterday.”

IT analyst Garter estimates that 40% of businesses that experience a disaster will go out of business within 5 years. At this AITP meeting, leading information technology (IT) industry and emergency management experts will discuss some of the key actions required for businesses and organizations to prepare for, survive, and even thrive, following a disaster.

“With the Atlantic hurricane season starting on June 1, Long Island information technology professionals, business owners, and managers are well aware of the need for a formal disaster plan in their organizations,” said Barbara Viola, president, AITP Long Island Chapter. “But disasters are not limited to the wrath of Mother Nature — man-made disasters, accidents, even a burst pipe or an electrical brownout can disable or destroy a business. The AITP is hosting this meeting to help managers and IT professionals assess the best practices required to start or enhance a successful business continuity plan.”

Scheduled luncheon speakers:
Ted Fisch, NY State Emergency Management Office - Regional Director, N.Y.C/L.I.
Bob Lamendola, mindSHIFT - Divisional Vice President, Client Services
Edward J. Maggio, NYIT - Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Center for Security and Disaster Response, Department of Behavioral Sciences
Michael Sampogna, CA - Vice President, Business Continuity Planning
Moderator: AITP Member Andrew Weitzberg, Brae Group – Vice President

The pre-meeting discussion will focus on electricity, environmental disposal and secure data destruction, as part of a business continuity plan. E-Solutions LLC is sponsoring the wine and cheese tasting at this meeting.

Pre-registration for this AITP event is recommended; seating is limited. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, from 12 noon to 2 PM, at the Milleridge Cottage in Jericho, NY. The pre-meeting discussion begins at 11 am. For details, visit: http://www.aitp-li.org/events.
