Healthcare Information Technology Special Interest
Group (SIG) Launched by AITP Long Island Chapter

Hospital Council, is keynote speaker at inaugural meeting
Hicksville, N.Y. – January 19, 2010 – The Long Island
Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals
(AITP) today announced the formation of a new special interest group
(SIG) that focuses on the information technology interests and needs of
the healthcare industry. The first meeting of the AITP Healthcare IT SIG
is scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, in Hauppauge, NY, and will feature
a keynote talk by Kevin Dahill, President and CEO of the Nassau-Suffolk
Hospital Council.
“With healthcare’s standing as one-sixth of our country’s economy,
combined with the intense information technology needs of the industry,
the AITP Long Island Chapter has established this special interest group
to address the needs of this large and important segment of the IT
industry,” said Blaine Atkins, SIG chairman. “The mission of the new
AITP Healthcare SIG is to provide healthcare IT professionals with
opportunities for education and networking with their peers on Long
Island and throughout the metro New York region.”
At the kickoff meeting of the AITP SIG on January 26, the keynote
speaker will be Kevin Dahill, President and CEO of the Nassau-Suffolk
Hospital Council (http://www.nshc.org).
He will discuss the healthcare IT challenges faced by Long Island
hospitals, private practices and clinics. The SIG leadership will also
solicit comments and input from attendees on future direction of the
SIG, topics for meetings, speaker nominations, etc.
“The AITP Long Island Chapter is constantly seeking new ways to meet the
needs of our membership and the larger information technology and
business community on Long Island,” said Barbara Viola, president, AITP
Long Island Chapter, and Eastern District Director of the national AITP
organization. “Already the second largest AITP chapter in the country,
the addition of this new Healthcare SIG expands our offerings on a key
area of the IT industry: healthcare.”
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, from 8 AM to
10 AM, at the Adelphi University facilities at 55 Kennedy Drive,
